Answering the Call with Mary Connealy

One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE authors, Mary Connealy, is one of the first authors who introduced me to the world of humorous inspirational fiction. I LOVE her books. Just finished reading Over the Edge, out NOW, and I loved it! As usual she weaves fabulous male-female banter, action, humor, and romantic tension into a well-written story. SO. MUCH. FUN!

So - what is her 'call story'?

My 'Call' story didn't include a call.

Every year at the ACFW conference the acquiring editor for Heartsong Presents gives a contract to an unpublished author. I was so hopeful! I knew there was a chance it could be me. The Heartsong editor, Tracie Peterson, had a book from me and we'd talked and done some revisions but I'd never gotten that sale.

The moment came for that Barbour announcement and Tracie........said someone else’s name and there’s only one, so okay, I’ve been rejected before. I kind of expect it. And then she said, “And this year we’re giving two contracts to first time authors. We’re offering a contract to Mary Connealy .” I get chills saying that! It was a wonderful, thrilling shocking moment. I had to go up and get the contract, in front of 350 other writers, all clapping. A great, great moment in my life.

WHAT A GREAT STORY! Fabulous! (and your readers are SOOOOO glad)

  6. I can only remember flashes of what I did. It's all a blur. I was actually sitting at the table with Becky Germany, the editor for the longer books at Barbour, Heartsong Presents is their shorter line.
I asked her later what I acted like and she said there was nothing so dreadful. But she might've just been being nice. Or discreet. Or maybe I was forgettable.
