A Writer Needs One

Some people see talents in us long before we do - and they start dreaming big dreams for us before we even know what to dream.

My daughter found a story today that I wrote when I was 10 years old. On the final page was enscripted "written from Oct4- Oct 7, 1986".

There's something special about that story. Now, it wouldn't sell in today's market. It's not amazingly written, the characters aren't well-developed, and the little illustrations I included...er...well, let's just say they will NOT be hanging in a museum anytime soon- but it was the first story I typed.

You know, on one of those keyboard mechanical devices BEFORE computers ;-)

And this was a special typewriter.
My granny bought it for me that week and told me "A writer needs one of these."
A writer?
She inspired that dream in me before I realized it - and I can honestly say her words (fueled with God's gift) led me to pursue writing.

It's also interesting that my sweet Granny - a lady who had become one of my closest friends- died last year on October 1. This knowledge just encourages me all the more to believe in the dream that my Granny and my parents started dreaming for me over 25 years ago.

And if God blesses me with a small sparkle of the storytelling skills of my Granny, then I'm sure God will use those stories to inspire others.

Computers may have replaced those typewriters, but nothing can replace the faith and love of the people who believe in you most.

I'm honored and thankful for their constant dreaming.

I was blessed beyond words to be inspired by her.

  3. So sweet! You've been blessed, as I have, with wonderful Grannies!! Mine inspired me to play the piano, and well, and she also introduced me to Grace Livingston Hill and Essie Summers books. Grannies are special angels, I think!
